PECTUS

Pectus excavatum is the most frequent chest deformity and does occur in more than 1 out of every 1000 people. This deformity is characterized by an either symmetrical or asymmetrical sternal concavity which – dependent on the shaping – does cause rarely cardiopulmonary changes, however, quite often does trigger severe psychosocial problems.

As an innovative evolution of former surgical treatment standards – mostly invasive procedures with relatively high blood loss, long operation and rehabilitation time and quite often dissatisfactory long-term cosmetically results – the minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum is receiving worldwide rapidly growing attention.

Benefits:

• Minimally invasive vs. “open” technique with less complications
• Small and cosmetically unobtrusive incisions
• Minimally blood loss (< di 30 ml vs. > 300 ml)
• Significantly reduced operating time ( < 60 minutes)
• Short hospitalization
• Quick rehabilitation and early return to regular activities
• Excellent long-term results
